The original Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera revolutionized the world of photography with its self-developing film feature, an invention credited to Edwin Land. The SX-70 Land Camera is a single lens reflex (SLR) camera that provides photographers with an accurate, through-the-lens view of their composition, a feature not available with other Polaroid cameras.
Sharing the same basic design as other collapsible SX-70s, the Polaroid SX-70 Sonar OneStep, introduced in 1972, comes with a standard 114mm f/8, four-element lens and produces a 77mm square image. This results in an image roughly equivalent to using a 45mm focal length lens on a standard 35mm film camera. The camera is capable of automatic exposure with manual adjustments via a control knob on the face of the camera for darkening or lightening images.
What sets the Polaroid SX-70 Sonar OneStep apart is its sonar feature for determining focus distance. With the addition of an auto-focus motor, this camera became the go-to choice for photographers wanting a premier instant film camera without compromising on quality.
